- Stretching - a method for increasing flexibility, usually static and passive.
- Mobility - the active range of motion you can control and produce force through, without external assistance. This is the quality that actually transfers to lifting, running, and daily movement.
You can be flexible and still lack mobility. Being able to be pushed into a deep hip stretch by a partner doesn't mean you can actively control that same range of motion under load in a squat. Mobility training closes that gap.

When to do mobility work
- Before training - dynamic, movement-based mobility work (like the routine above) as part of the warm-up. Avoid long static holds immediately before heavy lifting, since prolonged static stretching can temporarily reduce force output.

Common mistakes
- Doing long static stretches right before heavy lifting - this can acutely reduce strength output. Save deep static holds for after training or rest days.
